From the chapter: Business Environment: Systems, Policy and Responsibility

The Reserve Bank raises the cash reserve ratio. This is an instrument of:

Show the answer and why

Answer: A.

The cash reserve ratio is set by the Reserve Bank and works by changing how much of a bank's deposits it must hold with the central bank, which changes the quantity of credit available. That is monetary policy by definition. Fiscal policy is the government's, and moves taxation and expenditure rather than the reserve requirements of banks. The word 'ratio' and the statutory feel of the term mislead candidates into reading CRR and SLR as legislative measures, but both are RBI instruments and neither is voted on in a Budget.
