A convex mirror gives an erect, diminished virtual image for any real object, and the diminished image lets a large area fit in a small mirror. A concave mirror gives a magnified image only at close range and an inverted real image for far objects, so it is not suitable; a plane mirror gives a virtual, not real, image and a narrow field.
